My name is Emma and I am a registered mental health nurse with over twenty years of experience working within the NHS in Cornwall. I started my career working with young people experiencing psychosis and then developed a specialist interest in perinatal mental health, working in this area for many years, including both clinical leadership and therapist roles. I have experience of working in adult acute mental health services both in the community and in hospital settings. This includes working with people with severe and enduring mental illness, people who are experiencing a mental health crisis and suicidal thoughts, people who have experienced adversity and trauma and people who are facing the stresses and challenges of daily life.
Recognising the significance of trauma and adversity in mental health motivated me to train in EMDR and this is the treatment that I currently specialise in. I am a fully accredited EMDR Europe therapist and a member of the EMDR Association UK.
I am trained in Compassion Focused Therapy and this complements the work that I do in the stabilisation/preparation phase of EMDR. I have done additional training in CFT for grief.
I recently made the exciting decision to leave my therapist role in the NHS and focus on building my private EMDR practice. I continue to occasionally work as a mental health nurse in the general hospital ensuring that my knowledge and skills are up to date.
I am a warm and attuned person and I believe that developing connection with others is a vital part of the healing process. I believe that given a certain set of circumstances any of us could experience mental health difficulties. Life can be stressful at times and we are all vulnerable to experiencing adverse life events or traumas that can affect our mental health. I can offer you a therapeutic space to learn new ways of understanding yourself and your experiences, enabling you to start to feel more comfortable and in control of your mental health.
In therapy it is really important to have a connection and a feeling of being a ‘good match’ with your therapist. I therefore offer a free initial consultation call of around 15 minutes for you to find out more about what I can offer and whether my approach will suit you.
I have an enhanced DBS check and am fully insured. I have regular supervision with an accredited EMDR Europe consultant. I undertake regular continuing professional development and adhere to the professional standards of all the bodies that I am a member of (NMC - Nursing and Midwifery Council and EMDR UK and Europe)
